WELCOME
Firstly, what an exhibition! We kept hearing time and time again Salon International 2022 described as “a reunion”. And it truly was. Brands back on the show floor and visitors that hadn't seen each other since before the pandemic were reunited. Of course there were plenty of new brands too to tantalise our hairdressing tastebuds. The HJ team loved meeting you all and seeing the incredible and creative work created across our three live stages and four live shows. Missed it or want to relive the three days? Turn to page 35 to see just some of the highlights.
Elsewhere in the issue we spoke to Drew Scott a salon owner in the small town of Prudhoe in ‘Keeping it Local’. Drew actually direct messaged us to say it would be great to hear from local salons who keep their heads down, run their business successfully and promote the industry to their local areas. They might not be part of a big chain or enter the big awards, but they are the pillars of our industry. Got a comment or opinion to air? Direct message us on social media or email me on charlotte.g@thepbgroup.com - we genuinely want to hear from you and you never you know, you might appear in the next issue of HJ…
Speaking of inspiring the next generation and keeping up the standard of our industry, we have an interview with HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards Educator of the Year winner Leigh Kerr, Rainbow Room International Academy director. She is pushing for more publicity of the hairdressing industry in schools. As Leigh says “At least 50% of the candidates I interview were told that college was the only option if they wanted to train in hairdressing, there is little promotion of modern apprenticeships.”
As we go into the festive season (potentially the first ‘normal’ Christmas we’ve had in two years) it pays to be prepared with some party looks up your sleeve. Turn to page 34 to see what the experts are recommending.
Here at HJ HQ, we’re on the countdown to the British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional on Monday 28 November. We can’t wait to see you there, so make sure you get your tickets!
