Transformed Tresses
Nothing says transformation like adding extensions to change your client’s look. “The snatched half-up-half-down ponytail elevates any outfit. Add extensions to the underneath for added volume and thickness or a pop of colour,” says Jordanna Cobella, Wella Professionals Top Artist UK.
Robert Eaton, Hot Tools European Brand Ambassador, recommends the Dual Plate Salon Straightener to transform hair from subtle and safe, to big and bold: “Take small sections of hair and use the irons to create curls. Then brush the hair out with a soft bristle brush, backcomb the roots and use some dry shampoo or texturising spray to make the hair pop. This 70s inspired hair is perfect for the client with straight hair who wants a look that’s got the wow factor.”
Simple but Effective
For the client who wants a hairstyle that requires little but says a lot, you’re in safe hands with a classic Hollywood wave.“Think beautiful, sculpted, cascading waves with a high-shine finish and plenty of body,” says Christopher Laird, ghd Pro Team member. He adds:“To create this type of wave, I use the ghd platinum+ styler and a push-down technique, curling all the hair in the same direction to create that ripple effect. Always leave hair to cool completely before gently combing out with a detangling comb for a polished finish.” Jordanna likes to opt for a classic blow-out:“Volume at the roots and flicky ends works well for any event. This can be achieved with rollers, a blow-dry, or mimicked with a large ghd tong to bevel the ends. Use Nioxin Instant Fullness Dry Shampoo in the roots for added volume.”
Statement-Making Style
It’s important to be prepared with plenty of ideas, says Christopher.“Create moodboards or share trending looks you love on social media,” he explains. “This season I’m obsessed with sleek high ponytails, accessorised with metallic elastics, and long braids woven through with coloured ribbons that match or contrast their hair and outfit.” “For a bolder option, go for the wet look which works so well on naturally wavy or textured hair,” says Jordanna, explaining:“A high-shine product, such as Sebastian Professional Shine Define Spray works well. Diffuse in so that the hair sits flatter and there are zero flyaways.”
No Fuss
The modern top knot is the perfect look for the low maintenance client says Jordanna, adding:“Secure with pins and straighten out the ends that stick out for a modern statement top knot.” Some clients are simply after long-wear party hair, Robert Eaton tells us: “Often, one tool is all you need to get the look that your client needs, it’s just a case of applying the right technique. Always finish with a strong but flexible hold hairspray and anti-humidity spray.”
