WELCOME
I can’t stop looking at the British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, finalist and nominee collections. Each time, I notice a new detail in the cut or a nuance in the colour. We know how much investment goes into creating the images, and they really push our industry forwards. Team HJ can’t wait to be with you on Monday 28 November to celebrate your successes. Not there on the night? Be sure to check out all our coverage online at www.hji.co.uk.
It’s always so exciting to see what colour trends the experts predict will be big in the coming year and finding out the terminology that will inspire your clients (check out pages 29-33). Personally I’m very tempted by anime pink… And on page 34 we discuss colour corrections. Yes mistakes happen, but out of every failure comes a learning. To truly succeed, you have to have failed first. It’s a skill to talk your clients through a correction, so learn from the best on page 34.
At the risk of sounding like a well-known politician, it’s all about ‘education, education, education’ in this issue. We’ve compiled a course calendar to set you up for the new year, so whether you’re an assistant, educator or even salon owner everything is in a colour-coded key that shows who the courses are perfect for (see page 24). We also spoke to three people who are killing it in the industry in How I Made It (on page 27). They might not be social stars or have their names above a salon door, but they prove that a hairdressing career can be varied, successful, profitable and, above all, fulfilling. Our company Professional Beauty Group is actually kickstarting a recruitment campaign, and we are looking for people in the industry who love what they do to share a video with us about why hairdressing is the perfect career.
Finally, it goes without saying that here at HJ we are all too aware of the challenging times that are facing the industry. We’ve started a new regular feature called HJ Voicenotes to get fresh business perspectives on industry hot topics. Each issue we let a different industry member share their views on issues affecting them and their peers. If you’ve got an idea, email charlotte.g@thepbgroup.com – we'd love to hear from you.
