Welcome

IIt’s been another difficult month for the UK hairdressing industry with lockdowns taking place again throughout the UK. England’s second national lockdown, which started on Thursday 5 November, encouraged the UK Government to take another look at its financial schemes that were originally coming to an end in November. Many UK-wide schemes that were being tweaked or removed are now back in force so please go to page 7 to find out how the latest financial offering might be able to help you and your business. This second round of closures has been extremely challenging for many, so head to page 30 for expert advice on the preparations you can make now for 2021.

We do have some positive news to share if you haven’t seen it already. A SAGE report has revealed the hairdressing industry is not to blame for the rising number of UK COVID-19 cases, which is important evidence for the industry to have moving forwards. The full story is on page 8.

We have a jam-packed issue to finish what has been a rollercoaster year. A feature on the future of education as well as the courses to look out for is on page 58 and how you can use your knowledge of face shapes to give a personalised service is on page 51. Plus, in this month’s colour special we have the coolest shades right now, an exclusive interview with Sophia Hilton and how to give your clients the most striking colours for all of their social events on Zoom.

HJ is also thrilled to share the stunning images created by this year’s British Nominees for HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional. You can tune into the virtual event live via HJ’s Facebook page on Monday 30 November and we’ll be revealing all of the winners in our next issue.

We really hope you manage to have a busy month in the lead up to Christmas (social distancing measures and Government guidance permitting, of course).

The HJ team will continue to share and report on all of the latest news for you as it happens as we move into 2021.

Stay safe everyone and we hope you are able to have a much-deserved physical and mental break this Christmas!
