LIFE THROUGH A LENS
Mark Hayes inspires hairdressers across the globe with his passionate approach to hair and his technical expertise as Sassoon International Creative Director
1: On The Fringe
I created this in 1981 on Beverley Streeter. It featured an undercut fringe, and the colour by Tony LeBeau accentuates the short fringe – people think she is wearing a headband.
2: Convertible Colour
This was shot on location in Gran Canaria, it was the end of a day shooting on the beach. The model’s wraparound haircut fell into place and Annie Humphreys' colour finishes it off perfectly.
3: Stormy Weather
Janine Giddings and I were on a shoot at a sunny but extremely windy Dungeness beach. We had to find shelter to control the hair, and this was the slightly dishevelled but kind of cool result.
4: Lost In Translation
This model had arrived from Argentina and spoke very little English. We had to communicate through a translator to explain the references which were loosely based on a 70s Coupe Sauvage.
5: Sharp Shapes
This homage to Vidal’s five-point cut was created for the Sassoon Professional Product line.We cut the hair in a short gamine shape with a reflective surface of blue/black.
6: Hair!
This was created for a collection entitled ‘Hair!’ as a homage to the musical of the same name. Model Myriam’s hair beautifully displayed the magnificent properties of natural hair.
7: Sunkissed
Elodie has a stunning natural texture. I cut a graduated, rounded shape that released all of the inherent volume. The sun-lightened colour was by Pink Grubb from our London Academy.
