It feels like the topic of sustainability has been bubbling under the surface for the last couple of years, but with a client base that’s now demanding it, the industry is really taking action. We look at three businesses to see the moves they’re making to become greener (see page 28). You’ll also see the top level brands taking ownership of their eco efforts in this issue. Yes, meaningful change can start at a grass roots level, but it's all the more impactful when it comes from the top too. What the hairdressing industry now shares is a sense of responsibility and possibility.

Speaking of possibilities – your client’s long-awaited weddings can finally happen and the possibilities for their hair is endless! Whatever shape or form a wedding, civil partnership or union takes – it’s likely it will involve a trip to a hair professional. Wedding colour should be a key focus for salons, the wrong shade and it will be forever immortalised in photos. There's sage advice on page 39. We also loved hearing how the pros create a clean base for colour on page 43.

It’s a joy to be back out in the industry visiting salons and talking faceto-face with you all. HJ was lucky enough to be present at the Wella Professionals Shinefinity Glazed collection shoot. The styling, the location, and of course, the gorgeous hair created by Jordanna Cobella, sparks absolute joy. There are five covetable covers to collect – which one did you get? Meanwhile, if you’re reading this at the beginning of the month you still have time to enter the British Hairdressing Business Awards. Whether you’re a marketing genius, know an apprentice star in the making or are a business leader who goes the extra mile, you’ve got to be in it to win it (as the saying goes). Entries close on 8 April 2022, so go for it.

And finally, the response from the industry to the war in Ukraine has been overwhelming. Whether you’re a big brand or a small, local salon, everyone seems to be supporting the crisis in some way and it's a testament to the compassion we have in our industry.
