Barber sessions
DJ’s, haircuts, street food and cocktails… sounds like a good combination, right? ‘Barber Sessions’ is the signature event of Stag Digbeth, which asserts itself as the UK’s first independent barbershop, speciality coffeeshop, cocktail bar and venue under one roof. The barbering crew showcase their skills whilst DJ’s move through a selection of tunes and bartenders shakes cocktails from the barbering themed menu including drinks such as the ‘Flat Topper’ and the ‘High Fade’. Located in the rapidly expanding area of Digbeth, Birmingham, the venue are due to open positions for guest barbers to appear at the monthly event.
Winners of Barber Clash Competition Announced
Congratulations to the winners and runners up of the first-ever Barber Clash competition which took place at Salon International 2021 (see the full list in our Salon International coverage on page 40). The competition was brought to you by Modern Barber in association with Mike Taylor Education.
Independent Birmingham Barbershop
An independent city centre barbershop is celebrating after moving into a new, larger space and expanding its team. The team at Shepherds, led by husband and wife team David Sturgeon and Valeria Berrazueta, have moved into units at the New Street end of Piccadilly Arcade following an extensive refurbishment, building on pre-pandemic success and a strong start since reopening this year.
Valeria says: “We are so delighted to open in our new home - we couldn’t be happier with how the shop looks and already our team are enjoying the benefits of having such a fantastic space to work in. The success of our first salon confirmed our knowledge that Birmingham men want classic, quality hairdressing, combined with traditional skills and experiences such as wet shaves and beard maintenance.”
