Slidercuts Updates Shaping up Culture

Mark Maciver, aka Slidercuts has recently updated his book Shaping Up Culture to include tips on covid-19 recovery and finding opportunities in hardship. As we know, the salon and barbering industry has taken a huge hit over the pandemic, and communityfocused black barbershops, which centre so much on social interaction, have been hit hard in the last 18 months.

Mark also has some interesting insights on the future of the industry. This is along with advice and insight on creating a thriving business while facing challenges. He has also been working with charity UK Youth and his publisher Knights Of have broadened the impact of Maciver’s book to deliver on-the-ground support for young, black businesses, awarding five young people with a £1,000 grant each, as well as 1-2-1 mentoring.

Has Love Island Influenced Grooming Trends?

A study has revealed the grooming habits of the top three male finalists from each Love Island series to reveal how men’s hair care trends have evolved in (and out) of the villa. In the previous six series, 44% of male finalists had light facial stubble, and 88% appeared to have removed their chest hair. The most common haircut was a form of fade, with 72% choosing this style. The research was conducted by beard care specialists The English Shaving Company.
