Andrew Barton Appointed Patron of Honour
Award-winning hairdresser Andrew Barton has been named the Patron of Honour for the Hair and Barber Council.
Andrew is only the third person to be honoured with the title in the Council’s 58-year history, following in the footsteps of Vidal Sassoon CBE and Daniel Galvin OBE.
As the Council’s Patron of Honour, he will work closely with Registrar Keith Conniford, liaising with Government and officials to get the Act of Parliament for industry regulation made mandatory.
Andrew said: “I’m delighted to accept the appointment to work closely with the Hair and Beauty Council and its cause to represent the industry and its people.”
L’ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY GRAND FINALISTS ARE REVEALED
The L’Oréal Colour Trophy competition made a return for 2022, inviting all hairdressers to show off their colour mastery against other hair professionals.
After thousands of competitors battled it out across the UK and Ireland, L’Oréal have announced the Grand Finalists and salons that have made it through so far.

Matrix Unsung Hero
To celebrate the new Backbar range from Matrix, HJ and Matrix ran a competition to find the industry’s unsung hero. Judged by Matrix artists Lisa Farrall, Desmond Murray and editor of HJ, Charlotte Grant- West, the panel deliberated to find someone who had gone above and beyond for their community and colleagues. Congratulations to Emma Fowler from Essex, who was nominated for helping stylists and businesses claim government grants throughout the pandemic.
One nominee commented, “Emma was nothing short of a lifeline for so many.” Emma will receive Matrix education vouchers and a hamper of Matrix products.
PRESIDENT’S NIGHT CELEBRATIONS
The Fellowship for British Hairdressing President’s Night was held on Monday 11 April at The Brewery, in London. Ken Picton, who has led the organisation for the past three years, handed over the reins to British Hairdresser of the Year, Robert Eaton in front of industry peers at the star-studded event.
The F.A.M.E team also presented their first show, Evolution. Alex Cook, Darrel Starkey, Jessica Hau and Lydia Wolfe gave a showcase of the skills they have learnt so far this year, with stunning 5ft colourful ponytails, precision cuts and dynamic shapes.
Receiving his regalia, Robert added: “My whole career has been shaped by the Fellowship; I was part of the 2003 F.A.M.E. Team which instilled in me the importance of nurturing the next generation. Now, it’s my time to give back. I want to work with as many people as possible to evolve the industry and continue the heritage the Fellowship has always had.”
#IAMAHAIRARTIST WINNERS ANNOUNCED
This year’s #IAMAHAIRARTISTWIN competition with L’Oréal Professionnel has got off to a flying start. Huge congratulations to the below winners who stood out in February (theme: Glow Up Gloss) and March (theme: Root Shadow). The next themes? Revlon Professional Announce First Front Row Summit
Revlon Professional will hold their first Front Row Summit, in Madrid on 15 and 16 May 2022.
The event will provide a mix of inspiration, creativity, innovation and trends, with opinion leaders sharing their expertise in a technological experience where the audience becomes the focus of the interaction.
Revlon Professional brand global ambassadors Mark Leeson and Manuel Mon will both present their vision of future fashion and hair.

Davines and Radio London Join Forces

HAIR FOR GREAT CAUSES
Kao Group Provides Emergency Aid to Ukraine
Joining the global call for support in this humanitarian crisis, Kao Corporation made a donation of €500,000 to UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency for humanitarian assistance, to those affected in Ukraine and surrounding areas.
The company also plans to donate Kao products such as disposable baby diapers, sanitary products, and hand soap through Japanese industrial associations and other organisations to help people in Ukraine and in evacuation centres. Kao Group companies have also made company donations to the International Committee of the RED Cross (ICRC), and in addition, is matching employee donations to provide humanitarian aid.
Aveda Hosts Brighton Beach Clean with Marine Conservation Society
Aveda has partnered with the Marine Conservation Society to host a beach clean on 21 March 2022 in Brighton, to help support the fight against marine litter in the UK.
As part of the beach clean, the leading UK charity dedicated to protecting the country’s seas, shores and wildlife, Marine Conservation Society also conducted a ‘litter timeline’ with the team from Aveda, demonstrating how long litter found in the marine environment takes to break down.
On the day, Aveda collected 65kg of litter and rubbish with just over 70% being plastic and polystyrene.

Denman Brush Professional has partnered with Plastic Bank to help stop ocean plastic while improving collectors’ lives in vulnerable coastal communities.
The partnership is part of Denman International’s mission to make a positive environmental, social and economic impact.

Golf for the Good
The HBSA (Hair & Beauty Suppliers Association) is orgnanising a Golf Day in aid of our industry’s charity, the Hair & Beauty Charity. On Tuesday, 19 July, Staverton Park Hotel and Golf Club in Daventry, Northamptonshire will host the event which kicks off at 10.30am with bacon or veggie rolls before teeing off to enjoy a round on the beautiful course. Once all the teams have completed their 18 holes, a short awards ceremony will celebrate the longest drive, nearest the pin and other achievements before a three course dinner. Accommodation is available for guests who wish to stay.
