In celebration of their 40th anniversary, Headmasters decided to put their salon staff centre stage in their annual brand image campaign
“Headmasters is what it is because of its people,” says creative director, Andrew Barton. “So, we wanted to put them right at the front for clients to see who we are and who makes it happen!”
Hairdressing group Headmasters is celebrating 40 years in the hairdressing industry this year. Those years have been spent dedicated to delivering fashionable, confidence-boosting hair from their 55 salons across London and the south east.
Reflecting on their journey and who’s responsible for their success, they decided to place their talented salon staff centre stage by choosing twelve of them to feature in their annual brand image campaign. “Headmasters is what it is because of its people,” says creative director, Andrew Barton. “So, we wanted to put them right at the front for clients to see who we are and who makes it happen!”
Their tribe of 800 hairdressers from across the group were invited to apply to be in the photoshoot, and a shortlist of 30 were invited to an X-Factor-style audition to choose the final 12.
“It was incredibly difficult to narrow it down from thirty,” says Andrew. “We wanted to have different stories and careers, and different levels from different Headmasters salons.”
The lucky final 12 attended a two-day photoshoot with leading beauty and fashion photographer Jack Eames, who created the most beautiful collection of portraits which will form the basis of the new campaign. As well as being featured in all of their salons, on social channels and company website, the images and video will also form part of a dedicated recruitment campaign designed to give prospective stylists an insight into what it is like working at Headmasters.
The campaign, named #WeAreHeadmasters, launched in salons in April ahead of Headmasters official birthday in May, when the whole team will come together for a big birthday party at The Prince in Fulham. “We can’t wait to celebrate our 40th year with the team,” says chairman John Sanders, who co-founded the salon group with his wife Christine back in 1982 when they opened the now flagship salon in Wimbledon Village.
