WELCOME
PHOTOGRAPHY: CHRIS BULEZUIK
Firstly, we have some introductions to make. Team HJ has had a host of new additions to the team. Take a look at our masthead to the right of this page and you’ll see Sian Jones, our deputy editor, Chloe Weldon our content writer, and Josie Jackson, our editorial assistant – all new joiners to the team. Thankfully we’re all very much out and about again (just take a look at our HJ Reports pages this month!) so if you haven’t done already, I’m sure you’ll bump into us soon at an up and coming event.
Speaking of which, HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards, held on Monday 4 July in London was a brilliant night of networking and celebration; check out the winners and see if you can spot yourself in our picture galleries starting on page 50.
How are you dealing with the traditionally quieter summer months? Maybe like our Debate subject this month, you’re looking to virtual consultations and, dare we say it, the metaverse, to boost business? If you’re not looking ahead, you’re behind – that’s the opinion of one of our writers this month. Which chimes in perfectly with our features on salon software this issue. The experts break down exactly what consumers want in 2022 on page 33, and we take a different approach on page 41 – unpicking why some salons say ‘no’ to software. At the end of the day, the consensus is that you need a booking system that works for you, whether it’s one that collects a deposit to lessen the financial impact of cancellations, sends out bespoke marketing to drum up more custom or even means all your clients’ notes are in one place. Or one that does it all!
Here at HJ we wish you a prosperous summer, and remember the importance of taking time to rest, relax and recharge.
