UK SUCCESS AT WELLA PROFESSIONALS INTERNATIONAL TRENDVISION AWARDS
The Wella Company announced the winners of the Wella International TrendVision Award 2021 during its global digital event called WeCreate.
The International TrendVision Award received nearly 5,000 entries from 28 countries across seven categories, including colour, styling, editorial focus and nail art.
The TrendVision Award was hosted in a completely digital format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 21 winners across the seven categories showcased exceptional work and four of the winners came from the UK.
The winners will receive money-can’t-buy opportunities and unique global industry visibility such as being invited to go on stage at the Wella Professionals Destination event at the Lopesan Resort in Gran Canaria, Spain in September 2022.

UK & IRELAND TRENDVISION AWARD 2021 PHOTOGRAPHIC STAGE EVENT
The UK & Ireland TrendVision Award 2021 photographic stage results will take place virtually on 8 June at 3pm, 9 June at 7pm and 10 June at 7pm. The three virtual events will reveal the photographic winners and will also feature model presentations from Wella Professionals artists and interviews with TrendVision Award judges and past winners.
Wella Professionals’ Fergal Doyle and award-winning hairdresser Melissa Timperley will be hosting the three live events.
THE BIG LOOKS FROM THE BRIT AWARDS 2021
HJ asked a selection of hairdressers to share their best celebrity hair looks from the Brit Awards 2021.
Dua Lipa’s Amy Winehouseinspired Beehive Paul Falltrick at GFC Hairdressing said: “I love this updo on Dua Lipa, which is giving major Amy Winehouse vibes. Her hair is gorgeous and glossy and the style is classy and timeless, framing her face perfectly whilst showing off her statement jewellery and dress neckline.”
Mabel’s nod to 1990s grunge Nikita Fisher at Palmer Fisher London said: “Mabel’s red carpet look is bold yet striking, bringing back 1990s vibes with the deep chestnut red and golden blonde hair colours that contrast each other beautifully.”
Little Mix’s waves and braids Session stylist James Alfie Parr said: “I loved the simplicity of the styling. Super long waves like Perrie’s are wearable and perfect for salon clients at the moment.”
NEW HAIR BUSINESSES WILL CREATE MORE THAN 1,700 JOBS
A quarter of pandemic-born hair and beauty treatment business owners plan to recruit one or more employees, according to new research by The Accountancy Partnership.
These new businesses are set to create more than 1,700 new hair and beauty sector jobs in the coming months and years. Meanwhile, 71% of lockdown entrepreneurs plan to continually grow their revenue over the coming years, and 46% of new hair and beauty business owners aspire for their business to become their sole source of income. More than seven in 10 (71%) hair and beauty treatment ‘lockdownpreneurs’ want to continually grow their business revenues, the research has found.
BROOKS & BROOKS NAMES NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Brooks & Brooks artistic team member, Marlon Hawkins, has recently been promoted to artistic director. Marlon has worked with London-based Sally and Jamie Brooks for more than five years and he launched Brooks Education earlier this year.
Based in London, Brooks & Brooks salon and its founders have won a number of awards over the years. These include Sally being named British Hairdresser of the Year at HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional in 2017, 2018, and again in 2020.
NEW ADDITION TO PHOREST BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Phorest Salon Software has announced a new appointment to its leadership team. Paolo Braguzzi was Davines CEO for 17 years and is now on the Phorest Salon Software Board of Directors.

FIRST LIVING PROOF UK AMBASSADOR ANNOUNCED
Errol Douglas MBE has been announced as the first UK brand ambassador for luxury haircare brand Living Proof. Errol’s official title is pro hair expert and textured hair specialist, which will include significant involvement with PR, social media, retailer support and hosting events. A key focus will be to support the launch of the brand’s recently launched Curl collection, which caters to all hair types, including wavy and curly textures from a 2A loose wave to a tight 4C curl.

British Beauty Council Launches ‘Oh Hello Beauty’ Campaign
The British Beauty Council has launched a new campaign called ‘Oh Hello Beauty’ to encourage clients to come back to hair and beauty salons. The aim is to help high street and city centre businesses get back on their feet.
The campaign includes ‘Oh Hello Beauty’ posters aimed at hair salons, barbershops and beauty salons. The images can be downloaded as posters from bit.ly/ohhellobeauty and printed to be placed in your salon window. There are also social media assets for Facebook and Instagram and Gifs and Stickers to help spread the word with the hashtag #OhHelloBeauty. British Beauty Council chief executive Millie Kendall said: “We want to shout about the services on offer that can’t be replicated at home.”
NEW FRANCHISEE AND ROLES AT HEADMASTERS
Headmasters salon manager Sadia Majid has become the franchisee of the Chiswick salon. Sadia started with Headmasters six years ago as a Level 3 Apprentice and has worked her way up to become salon manager and now franchisee. Headmasters now has 27 franchise salons. Sadia is delighted and said: “Since I started in hairdressing I’ve had a vision to have my own salon and Headmasters has supported and encouraged me in every step of my journey.”
Headmasters has also announced new appointments within its senior management team with Jo Rhodes being named financial controller and Laura Geary moving from chief people officer to chief operating officer.
Headmasters finance director and interim CEO Trevor Sanders said:

FELLOWSHIP AWARDS OPEN FOR ENTRIES WITH NEW CATEGORY FOR 2021
The Fellowship for British Hairdressing Awards are open for entries with a new category for 2021 – the Afro Image Award.
The new award is open to any hairdresser who produces beautiful textured hair. The image should be a professional photo shot in a studio setting and it can be from a previous portfolio of work.

The new Afro Image Award joins the other categories in the Fellowship Awards – Snapshot Award, Men’s Image Award and Colour Image Award and entries are open until 3 September.
Fellowship chancellor Ashleigh Hodges said: “Our industry is incredibly diverse and we wanted to recognise all hairdressers with all skills and talent so introducing our Afro Image Award was a natural step to take in 2021. There are some incredibly talented hairdressers who specialise in textured hair and we are looking forward to seeing all the images entered on social media.” If you would like to enter you should upload three images to your Instagram page, tag @fellowshiphair and use the hashtag for your chosen award category.
The finalists and winners will be announced at the annual Fellowship Awards in December.
