“Inspired by the 10th-century Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, this collection reimagines the story of Princess Kaguya through contemporary hair artistry. We’ve woven the themes of Japan’s oldest narrative into the collection with bamboo textures, traditional woodblock prints, and silhouette concealment. Traditional Japanese prints and patterns also influenced the styling and colour palette, and hair was sculpted to conceal and frame the models. In some looks, the hair acts as both armour and mask, evoking mystery, vulnerability and strength. We also incorporated regal references drawn from Japanese court dress, adding height, volume and sculptural shapes.”
