Jo Hansford MBE Given Royal Warrant
Jo Hansford MBE has been granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment in recognition of services supplied to the Royal Household. The Royal Warrant is one of only seven made by Her Majesty The Queen and is the first to be awarded to Jo and her hair salons. Jo runs the largest female-owned independent salon group in London. Her Majesty The Queen had been one of Jo’s loyal clients for more than 30 years, since she opened her Mayfair salon.

Entries for HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards 2025, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, are now open. For 2025, we are extending the time in which images can have been photographed from one year to two in recognition of the economic uncertainty the industry is facing. Photos can have been shot from 1 July 2023 - 27 June 2025. Leading Hair Charity The Lions Barber Collective Returns
The Lions Barber Collective, an organisation dedicated to providing safe spaces within barbershops, salons and beyond, is back after being forced to close its doors in 2024 due to financial difficulties. They have now partnered with HereToTalk training, a programme that empowers individuals to have meaningful conversations about mental health. Lions Barber Collective founder, Tom Chapman stated: “We need to bridge the gap between the clients that hair professionals see daily and the resources available for mental health support. HJ Business Academy Launches
Hairdressers Journal International has announced HJ Business Academy, a new programme in association with award-winning salon owner and entrepreneur Sean Hanna to nurture future business brains of our industry.
HJ is offering six free places to aspiring entrepreneurs. Entries are open, to apply submit the following: Your industry experience (maximum 300 words); your goals and ambitions (maximum 300 words) and why you deserve a place in the 2025 HJ Business Academy (either a video or 500 words). Workshops with Sean will be held on Monday 12 May, Wednesday 9 July and Monday 29 September. In the last session, participants will pitch their own business plan - and the person who presents the best plan will have the opportunity to present at Salon International 2025 alongside Sean.
