HJ Reports: Eurovision with Moroccanoil
HJ touched down in Denmark for Eurovision with official Presenting Partners Moroccanoil for pure pop, backstage tours and one big product launch
Held this year in Malmö, Sweden, the Eurovision Song Contest returned with official Presenting Partners Moroccanoil at the helm. HJ travelled with the team to Copenhagen, Denmark where we experienced two Nordic cities in one trip, travelling over the Øresund Bridge into Sweden for a backstage experience in Malmö.
Take a look at our day-by-day diary below...
WEDNESDAY – BACKSTAGE TOUR OF THE MALMO ARENA
It’s amazing to see how much work goes into the Eurovision Song Contest during the backstage tour. United by Music was the theme again this year with Malmö taking their upcycling theme seriouslyevery activity had to be eco-certified and they aimed to make it the most sustainable event the arena had held.
As Official Presenting Partners, Moroccanoil offered HJ exclusive access backstage, and we peeked behind the curtain to see the Styling Bubble where all the contestants get their hair styled ahead of the shows.

The Moroccanoil Styling Bubble, became the base for 33 stylists from across the globe. We were greeted by Global Creative Director Antonio Corral Calero, who explained how the Styling Bubble worked and how Moroccanoil helps to make Eurovision the success that it is. "We do consultations on every performing artist and have a master Look Book which our stylists can refer to,” he explained. “We note down the artist's performance and what products work best for their styles. We also have a screen to watch the performances here in the Bubble, we look closely to see how the hair behaves during the performance and if we need to adapt anything.”

Antonio then touched on what qualities are needed to work with performers backstage. “Anyone that is hired as a stylist has to be a good human being,” he revealed. “It's not about ego, or how many followers they have, it's about the heart. Our job is to make the performers and the teams around them feel as comfortable as possible.”
During the Styling Bubble tour, we got a sneak peek of the new Moroccanoil Treatment Purple, a slightly pigmented version of the Original Treatment which neutralises brassy tones and helps keep blonde hair looking and feeling its best.

Next, we filmed our new video series 'HJ’s 17 questions' with Vice President of Creativity, Kevin Hughes. Scan the QR code to see the full interview, and find out what Kevin's proudest hair moment was... We also chatted to Nicole Healey, who won the Moroccanoil Global Hair Competition 2023 in Las Vegas. Amazingly, part of her prize was the opportunity to style hair at Eurovision.
“I couldn't believe I had made it to the top five finalists in the Moroccanoil Global Hair Competition, we all got to go to Las Vegas to compete in the live competition,” Nicole shared. “I felt like I'd already won to be honest, then when I was chosen as the ultimate winner it was unreal! The competition was out of my comfort zone, but it forced me to do things I'd never done before which is amazing for my hairdressing skills. I have loved working collaboratively with the Moroccanoil team and learning new skills.”
FRIDAY – SEMI FINALS 2 NIGHT
Slovenian act Raiven
Ahead of the Semi Finals 2 Show, we headed to the Purple VIP event at the Malmö Arena to find a purple paradise. With a purple dress code, purple-themed drinks, a lilac-hued flower garden and even a purple carpet we celebrated the launch of (you guessed it) Moroccanoil Treatment Purple. With subtle violet pigments it's designed to tone and correct blonde, lightened or grey hair, and offers all the healthy hair benefits of the original treatment. Antonio and Kevin talked us through the innovation before we celebrated with purple cocktails and saw the Semi Final show.

HJ headed to the styling suite to get a Eurovision-worthy look from Kevin Hughes. We then headed back to the Moroccanoil purple paradise for the warm-up party before the Eurovision Finals, before taking our seats to watch four hours of live music! The atmosphere was electric and we couldn't have been more excited for Switzerland to scoop the prize – singer Nemo seriously impressed with their incredible performance. Moldovian act Natalia Barbu
