#TRENDING TRESSES
To stay on top of the trends for AW23, HJ spoke to the experts to find out what they predict for the season ahead
SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL
WE WILL BLOCK YOU
A step on from the money piece, colour blocking is a trend that is set to soar, perhaps thanks to its versatility. From bold panel pops to more diffused colour blocking, it’s a way for clients to embrace their individuality. Darren Fowler,Ambassador for L’Oréal Professionnel Paris and Creative Director at Fowler35, says the different tones add contrast and depth to the hair, creating visual thickness.
JORDANNA COBELLA
TOP TIP:
“COLOUR BLOCKING IS GREAT FOR THOSE EMBRACING THEIR GREY HAIR. THE ‘ALICE BAND’ COULD BE CALLED THE ‘WISDOM STREAK’; A GREY OR WHITE COLOURED PANEL TO BLEND IN ANY NATURAL GREY HAIR.”
STAR PRODUCT: To intensify the thick and full look, you could use the Revlon Professional Eksperience Densi Pro Styling Spray, a hair densifying product.
SEASON TO SHINE
Even though the nights are drawing in, clients’ hair needn’t dull with the seasons. Ceri Cushen, Revlon Professional Ambassador and Creative Director at Metropolis Hairdressing, expects styles to centre around a healthy shine. To reflect light, experiment with tones; Angelo Seminara, Goldwell Global Ambassador, predicts caramel highlights for brunettes, and icy ashy tones for blondes.
L'OREAL PROFESSIONNEL PARIS
TOP TIP:
“I OFTEN LOOK AT MAKE-UP WHEN RESEARCHING HAIR TRENDS, AS THEIR INNOVATIONS AND NEW PRODUCTS SHOW WHAT CONSUMERS ARE LOOKING FOR TO COMPLEMENT THEIR HAIR. THEIR COLOUR PALETTES OFTEN REFLECT WHAT’S HOT FOR THE SEASON TOO.”
STAR PRODUCT: The Schwarzkopf Professional OSiS Hair Body is a great product to spray on wet hair. It will allow movement and softness to animate layers.
COPPER GETS HOTTER
MARK LEESON
Undoubtedly, rich and warm red and copper shades will make a return as we enter Autumn. As well as chestnut browns, auburns and cinnamons,Andrew Jose, Editorial Ambassador for Revlon Professional predicts the increase of vibrant tones. Perhaps Autumn will see an autumnal take on Barbie pinks, hints Evelina Lundgren, Creative Director at Andrew Jose.
TOP TIP:
“COPPER SHADES ARE PERFECT FOR AUTUMN AS WE CAN ADAPT THEM AS THE LEAVES CHANGE, WHICH WILL MAKE CLIENTS REALLY FEEL AT ONE WITH NATURE.”
STAR PRODUCT: To refresh the colour, a Wella Professionals Color Fresh Mask will give your client’s hair a desirable subtle hue.
LUSCIOUS LAYERS
SALLY BROOKS
Texture and layers are expected to be popular as we descend into the colder months, especially 'the lob' (long bob) with curved fringes and face framing lengths. Melenie Tudor, Schwarzkopf Professional Ambassador and owner of En Route Hair and Beauty, says the classic gorgeous golden, chestnut and apricot shades are perfect for complementing the depth of these cuts.
STAR PRODUCT: Goldwell Topchic Zero is infused with white tea essence to moisturise hair and keep it extra shiny.
TOP TIP:
“FOR TRENDS, LOOK AT THE INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE. KEEP AN EYE ON SOCIAL MEDIA, LOOKING AT CELEBRITIES AND INFLUENCERS. LOOK BACK AT OLD TRENDS TOO, AS THEY OFTEN MAKE A COMEBACK.”
