WELCOME
Here it is. The Salon International issue. As we move into Autumn, our annual exhibition brings with it the excitement of innovative launches, the thrill of fresh trends and the beginnings of new connections. Check out our guide (from page 49), to find out what you should see and when at #Salon22.
Whatever your thoughts on the monarchy, there’s no denying the impact Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth II has had on modern culture and I know you’ll join us in mourning her passing. A figurehead (literally) for impeccable style and immaculate grooming, you could not fault her attention to detail, particularly when it came to her hair. We pay our respects on page 33.
Elsewhere in the October issue, exclusive interviews abound. We spoke in person with a collection of outstanding hairdressers – even a year and a half on from the last official lockdown the novelty of travelling the country for face-to-face meetings doesn’t get old. On page 24-27, HJ met British Hairdresser of the Year, Robert Eaton and HJ’s Business Director of the Year, Colin McAndrew where we got stuck into the hot topics facing our industry today (such as recruitment and the rise in the freelance market). Their respective salons are a byword for success and they have many accolades to their names, but as people Robert and Colin could not be more humble. Both of them were open about feeling the effects of socalled 'Imposter Syndrome'.
Change is afoot in the industry as we found out in ‘The Art of Friendship’ on page 28. Gone are the days when you would leave a salon on bad terms or with a sense of resentment. We sat around the table with five friends – Tim Scott-Wright, Brooke Evans, Katie Mulcahy, Dale Hollinshead and Teri Lowe – who are all connected by being former employees of Tim. They now have their own careers and businesses, but it was heart-warming to feel a sense of encouragement between them, not rivalry. It was a similar sense of team work on the L’Oréal Colour Trophy UK and Ireland winners shoot, where HJ was lucky enough to be present. You’ll either have the UK or Ireland winning look on your HJ cover, and I think you’ll agree that based on these images the future of our industry looks bright. I hope you enjoy the issue, and see you at Salon International.
