2022 SALON SUSTAINABILITY UPDATES
Salons and stylists play a huge role in their communities and by developing their sustainability actions, they have the power to influence the decisions of their clients
NEW ‘HAIRSTYLISTS FOR THE FUTURE’ E-LEARNING
The new, free, E-Learning plan from L’Oréal Professional Products couldn’t have come at a better time.
Consisting of three modules, this mobile-first design has been developed to ensure that every hairdresser can enhance their sustainability knowledge and journey.
The plan consists of three modules; Carbon Footprint, Water and Waste where learners will get to grips with:
• What makes up our water, waste and carbon footprint?
• Why it's important for us to reduce them in salons
• How you can help to reduce them as a hairstylist
On completion, participants will have the option to download a ‘Social Sticker’ that can be displayed across their social channels.
“HAVING KNOWLEDGE IS KEY, IT'S REALLY ALLOWING ME TO UNDERSTAND THE IMPACT A SALON HAS. I'M LEARNING ABOUT THE LITTLE THINGS THAT I CAN DO THAT ALLOW ME TO RUN MY BUSINESS MORE SUSTAINABLY AND THAT IS INVALUABLE.”
Water Optimisation
The average salon in the UK&I uses 133,000 litres of water per year. To put that into perspective: that’s the equivalent of 890 bathtubs ₇. The development of the L’Oréal Water Saver, in partnership with Gjosa is an in-salon device designed to significantly reduce water usage at the backwash. The system is based on water fractioning, which allows up to 69% water savings. The L’Oréal Water Saver is being launched in early 2023 and will be available to salons across the UK and Ireland.
Hairstylists For The Future
Under the L’Oréal For The Future programme and the groups sustainability commitments towards 2030, L’Oréal Professional Products Division launched Hairstylists For The Future, a programme to support salons and stylists on their sustainable transformation with free online education and resources, as well as partnerships with industry experts. The programme runs across 5 pillars of sustainability; Preserving Natural Resources, Managing Water Sustainably and Fighting Climate Change, and are applied through Designing Sustainable Salon Spaces and Building a Community of Sustainability Advocates.
