HJ got exclusive access to the L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2022 UK and Ireland Winners shoot in July

Thousands of professional hair artists and colourists came together to celebrate the UK and Ireland's creatives at the annual L'Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Finals.

HJ was invited exclusively to spend the day with the six winners at their winning shoot which pulled together an incredible team including photographer, Jack Eames.

The day produced some fantastic images which are featuring on the front cover and in this issue of HJ. It was a hugely memorable experience for the newly-crowned UK and Irish winners, all of whom brought an incredible energy and creative skill to the shoot.

We spoke to them about the day itself, their looks and how it felt to win on the night.

L’ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY AWARD UK WINNER: RACHEL WHITE, BLOGGS SALONS, BRISTOL

“I couldn’t believe it when I found out I’d won. I’ve wanted this all my career. The inspiration behind my look was effortless and simple. With the hair colour, I wanted to bring to life a summer day. With the styling I wanted to be sculptural. Today on the shoot I’ve had the opportunity to work with an amazing team, the production that goes into a shoot like this is phenomenal. I want to say a big thank you to everyone who’s been part of it.”

L’ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY IRELAND WINNER: EMMA MARCEY COLLINS, ODD, LIMERICK

“It felt absolutely surreal to win. Just before the final we’d actually celebrated our first year in business at Odd Limerick.

The inspiration for the look was about texture and colour working together in harmony. I let my model’s curl pattern tell me where to colour. Today there has been lots of energy and a big buzz. My model is gorgeous so she’s amazing to work with.”

L'ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY AFRO AWARD: KELLY ROWNEY, TATE HAIR, MIDDLESBROUGH

“It’s unbelievable to win and it was great to have the team with me on the night. My inspiration came from a bronze sunset, I really felt those tones suited my model’s skintone. I love the look I’ve created. The shoot today has been brilliant – Ican’t believe we got our shot in one take!”

L'ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY STAR AWARD UK: ELLE FOREMAN, TRIBE, LONDON

“I’m very proud of myself for winning. For my look I wanted to combine bold placement and soft styling. I love creating colour on long hair and wanted to show that colour like this can still be commercial. The experience of shooting today, I’ve never done anything like this before, it’s totally new to me.”

Three words to describe your #LCT22 win: Exciting, rewarding and motivating

L'ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY STAR AWARD IRELAND: GEORGIA HAVERTY, PETER MARK COLLEGE, DUBLIN

“It was an honour to win and it was amazing seeing my vision come to life. My model Sophie’s look was inspired by 19th century French style.

I recently visited the Alsace region in France, which inspired the berry-toned, purple-hued hair colour. Today has been so much fun, and Sophie looks just amazing on camera.”

Three words to describe your #LCT22 win: So. Worth. It

L'ORÉAL COLOUR SPECIALIST AWARD: ESTHER WOOD, BLOGGS SALONS, BRISTOL

“It's a dream come true, it was so surreal. It was such a great feeling after all the hard work put in. I put together two bright contrasting shades, I’ve nicknamed the shade Pink Copper. The experience today has been incredible and Jack is awesome to work with. I’ve loved every minute and I’ve learnt so much.”
