When Karine Jackson told her accountants back in 2020 that she’d found a way to reduce her colour spend while upping colour revenue, they were doubtful. But 18 months later, comparing her year-on-year, July-to-October figu es, Karine could prove she’d reduced her colour bill by 20% while increasing takings in the colour bar by 30%.

The phoenix from the ashes of Covid-19 that helped Karine, and thousands of other salons, achieve this and quickly recover from the crisis was Vish Colour Management, a technology that puts owners and managers fully in control of their colour departments.

“Just when everything seemed so dark, I discovered Vish,” says Karine. “It enabled me to restructure charging as it records all colour used and that allows me to transfer those costs to the client rather than charging a flat fee egardless of the length, thickness or porosity of the hair. It’s so much fairer for the client and ensures every service has the same profit ma gin.” She adds: “We dispense all treatments using Vish, including Olaplex, perming solutions and straightening solutions so I know exactly how much is being used for every service, making restocking a total breeze.”

It also means there are no accidently missed services; the onus is no longer on the busy stylist to remember to tell front desk they mixed an additional bowl or toner - Vish captures it all. That alone has brought the business nearly £5k in additional product charges in just three months.

This helped the team to overcome their initial reluctance with a new system within days. But they also quickly saw the freedom it gave them to be creative without having to write down formulas or worry about the maths. They also loved that waste was down, helping protect the planet.

“2021 has been a hell of a year for the industry, with not just closures but social distancing squeezing capacity,” adds Karine. “But being completely in control of my business has freed us to be creative and to grow. We are all looking forward to an even better year in 2022.”
