Welcome

The past month has seen a rise in Coronavirus cases throughout the UK which has led to the UK Government introducing a three-tier local lockdown system. For most of the three tiers, hair salons, barbershops, mobile stylists and freelancers can remain open and continue working. At the time of going to print, however, both Wales and Northern Ireland announced ‘circuit-breaker’ style lockdowns resulting in hair salons and barbershops having to close.

On our news pages you’ll see how the Winter Recovery Plan, which comes into effect this month, could help you and your salon during these difficult times. We also have the results of the latest HJ Insider survey on page 24, which includes how members of the hairdressing industry are preparing for the Christmas season and your biggest concerns at the moment.

We also have some much-needed positive news for 2020 – the finalists of HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional are all featured in this issue. You can see which images are your favourites from the regional and specialist categories on page 43. Plus, Hairdressers Journal International and Schwarzkopf Professional have made the decision to go ahead with the awards ceremony as a virtual event on Monday 30 November. Head to hji.co.uk/bha for all of the latest information and to find out how you can watch the event live from your salon, barbershop, sofa – wherever you choose but we encourage you to dress for the occasion in your finest attire!

Team HJ would like to wish you all a safe month and we just want to remind you that we are here to help you during these difficult times. Please let us know if there are any topics you’d like us to cover during our HJ Goes Live sessions, on our website or in the magazine to help you and your business move forward.
