This issue of HJ is all about finding the balance between business success, creative inspiration and staying true to what makes hairdressing so special.

We kick things off with a look at the business side of our industry. In HJ Debate, three business owners share their thoughts on whether having an industry profile is the secret to success, while our HJ Reports takes you behind the scenes at Wella TrendVision and Redken On Stage. Both events celebrate the talent and artistry that continue to push our industry forward.

Creativity is another big theme this month. In HJ Voicenotes, Lloyd Court explores the idea of the death of creativity and, more importantly, how we can bring it back. It is a conversation that feels particularly relevant in an industry where trends move quickly and the pressure to create content can sometimes overshadow the joy of creating hair. And, as party season gets in full swing, our party hair feature explores how event hair has changed this year, while In the Bag gives us a peek inside the kits of some of the industry’s leading pros. There’s plenty to inspire your next client appointment!

And, of course, the November issue wouldn’t be the November issue without us looking back at one of the biggest dates in the hairdressing calendar. Our BIG Salon International Review brings together the highlights of #Salon26, celebrating the people, ideas and innovations that make this event such an important part of our industry.

Elsewhere, Anneliese Hesse shares her approach to freehand colour in Colour Notes, while our Fashion pages showcase seven stunning collections to spark your creativity. We also step inside Sarah Butler’s salon in Southsea for our Interiors feature, catch up with global hair icon Kevin Murphy for Careers, and discover the story behind Nicholas James Tucker’s award-winning collection, Apocalypse, in Behind the Lens.

This letter marks Editor Charlotte’s return to all things HJ after maternity leave. She’ll be working part time, and is super excited to be back in the thick of it.

Love, The HJ Team
