It is fantastic to see a ‘bob-session’ sweeping the nation – our recent Insta poll showed that 94% of you said you’d seen an increase in clients requesting bobs! A return to cuts, and relatively high maintenance ones at that, is undoubtedly good news for business. From page 39 we break down how to style 2024’s hero bobs – from the classic ‘old money’ blow-dry to a more au-naturel, easy breezy look – plus, the experts share what tools are in their kit.
This month’s HJ Voicenotes is London Hairdresser of the Year Jordanna Cobella. She shares what feminism in the industry looks like to her. If you haven’t seen it, take a look at our IG live from International Women’s Day. We covered her ambitions and what feminism means in 2024. Spoiler alert – it's about soft power and celebrating feminine qualities.
We love to hero our award winners, and hearing just what their awards mean to them is always so lovely. Our Adventures of a... interviewee this month was Stacey Whyte, British Hairdressing Business Awards Salon of the Year 2 winner (#BHBA24 deadline is Friday 5 April). She shared the journey of her 12-year strong salon business and what it’s taken to get there. Elsewhere Hooker & Young open up their archives in our Life Through a Lens series on page 98, don’t miss their exquisite work, it will leave you feeling inspired… and ready to enter the British Hairdressing Awards 2024, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional (hint, the deadline is Friday 28 June).
One subject that really fascinates me is balancing sustainability with profitability. And increasingly we’re seeing the two go hand-in-hand. Reducing colour waste, becoming vigilant about water usage and encouraging clients to shop local, sustainability isn’t just about what’s on a product label. We chat to hairdressing businesses and brands who are B Corp certified (the B stands for 'benefit for all', fyi) where it’s not just about carbon emissions but about workplace practices too. Head to page 55 to find out what they had to say. Also, don’t miss the second instalment of our two-part bonding series, the 14 colour consultation mistakes not to make and a tour around Leeds super salon Allertons. Enjoy!
