So, what do you think of our re-designed HJ? We absolutely love it here at HJ HQ and hope you do too! It’s fresh, clean and understated – and really showcases your stories, expertise and creativity, which is what this magazine is all about.
Speaking of which, the fashion collections in this issue are stunning and such a testament to the high quality of work coming out of the industry at the moment. Truly inspiring. And it all stems from a solid technical background. If you want to brush up on your colour correction skills and colouring techniques, look no further than our ‘Stand Corrected’ (page 39) and ‘Colour Hacks’ features (page 54). There’s lots of tips in there to elevate your colour services to new levels.
Speaking of elevating the industry, we spoke to a range of experts to get their perspective on the changes to the National Occupational Standards (page 26). It’s great to see that the NOS have now been updated to reflect the rapidly changing and diverse hairdressing sector. As Joan Scott, Chair of Habia, remarks: “The standards have been updated by employers to ensure that they reflect current technical developments and meet the needs of the UK’s diverse community.” These are essential changes that need to be adopted in the industry.
On the commercial side of matters, our business section is bursting with content that will help support your salons. Confused about salon leases? Commercial property expert Denise Furguson clears up grey areas (page 15) and if you want an insight into balancing creative life with business matters, read Thomas Hill’s article (page 21).
And don’t miss the line-up for the Salon International stages on (page 29 and 30) – this year from 16-18 October you’ll be treated to not two, but three, live stages and one brand new Busines Live, sponsored by NHBF programme. It’s been so long since the industry has come together and we can’t wait to see you in-person. We've missed live education and we’ve really missed seeing you!
