Welcome
April was a month of celebration with all four UK nations getting into the swing of hairdressing life again. We asked a number of salon owners and freelance stylists to share what reopening has meant for them. Head to our news pages to read their thoughts and please share your thoughts with us on our social channels.
To help you get used to holding a pair of scissors non-stop again we’ve asked the experts to share their advice on how to protect your hands throughout your career on page 43. Plus, we have HJ’s official 2021 scissor guide featuring the hottest tools for every price point (page 46). As that old saying goes: ‘You’re only as good as your tools’ so maybe now is the time to invest in a new pair.
If reopening has inspired you to make some tweaks to your salon we have 10 of the latest interior trends with tips and tricks for incorporating them in your own salon space (page 37).
Entries are open for HJ’s British Hairdressing Business Awards 2021 until Friday 21 May at 5pm. In this issue we’ve listed the seven reasons why you, your business and your team would be foolish not to enter this year. Go to page 23 for some insights on how it could benefit your business.
HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional 2021, is also open for entries. We know you’re busy catching up with clients in the salon at the moment so we’ve extended the entry date to Friday 2 July at 5pm. Go to hji.co.uk/bha to enter and check out our exclusive interviews with HJ’s current British Hairdresser of the Year Sally Brooks and HJ’s International Collection of the Year winner Silas Tsang on the differences between British and Canadian hairdressing.
Welcome back to all of you – we are thrilled to see all of you back with your clients again and please do let us know what you’d like to see from the HJ team in the coming months!
