ASK THE EXPERTS WITH KY WILSON

Many stylists struggle with getting a fringe to look effortless and natural, thankfully Ky Wilson, BaByliss PRO ambassador, is here to help

Ky says: A question I always get asked is how to style a fringe without it looking too ‘done’ and flicked out, so this is my go-to method for achieving that undone natural fringe look.

1 HAVE YOUR DRYER ON A MEDIUM SETTING AND MEDIUM SPEED.

2 THIS IS A VERY VISUAL TECHNIQUE SO DON’T BE AFRAID TO PLAY AROUND. JUST REMEMBER WHEN HEATING THE HAIR UP, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO MOULD THE HAIR AND THEN USE THE COLD TEMPERATURE TO SET IT.

3 DON’T PUT THE HEAT TOO CLOSE TO THE HAIR, JUST BUILD IT UP GRADUALLY TO ENSURE MAXIMUM HAIR HEALTH.

The Technique

It’s all about striking the perfect balance between chic and casual; and knowing the right techniques can make all the difference. With this method, you can achieve a fringe that has just the right amount of texture and movement, giving a relaxed, yet stylish appearance. Whether you’re aiming for a more laid-back vibe or simply want to avoid the overly styled look, this approach will help you create a fringe that enhances your client’s overall style with minimal effort.

Styling a fringe in a modern way is more about putting a bend in the hair, rather than a flick – it might seem like a subtle difference, but it will make all the difference. What you want to do is focus your attention on shaping, moulding and bending the hair in the right areas which will frame the face in a subtle manner.

Identify the area where you want the hair to bend away from the face. Once the fringe is dry, use a ceramic round brush underneath, and as you get to the end of the hair, push it back using the brush and add some heat in there. Take the dryer away and hold it in place to cool down. By using this technique, you will create a bend away from the face and then the ends will turn under hugging the cheek bone and eye area.

Key Products

The FALCO dryer comes with two nozzles, so for this look I used the 4x70mm one for the super concentrated air flow.
