“This image is from my 2013 British Hairdresser of the Year collection. I won the title for the fourth time and this is one of my favourite images. The whole collection was based on graphic, close-up shots. What I love about this picture is how extreme the haircut is, but I still find it soft and beautiful. The side panel wasn’t actually shaved away, the hair is very short and bleached giving it the effect of being shaved. The fringe is cut with reverse graduation for the geometric outline, and the hairstyle is very versatile and can be worn in many different ways – including hiding the short side panel. It’s how I like to work, pushing boundaries to the extreme but at the same time being inoffensive and acceptable as a general street hairstyle. The model was my muse for many years and is still with me as my current academy co-ordinator and my personal PA. The image may be ten years old, but it’s timeless.”
