Week in the Life of COS SAKKAS
TONI&GUY Global Creative Director Cos Sakkas takes us through his week, from morning drink to lights out and everything in-between
DEMO DAY
For me most weeks can be different, but here's what a typical week might look like! I am not the best sleeper so when I'm restless, I jump out of bed around 6am and head to the gym, while my brood are still asleep, to help clear my head for the busy days ahead. Then I have a warm water with honey before waking the house, jumping in the shower and heading to the Academy.
If I’m not on an overseas trip, Monday mornings start with an Art Team morning meeting. Monday is when all the courses start, so it’s a really busy day in the Academy. We welcome everyone and get them settled for their day ahead. After a morning demo, I will run down to the office to catch up on some emails over lunch. In the afternoon, I observe the team and training. I’ll sometimes jump in to explain something to our students – I love it when they get it, but I won’t leave until they do.
HEAD OFFICE DAY
Tuesday’s are spent at Head Office in Waterloo, where I meet with my mentor, Global Brand Director Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck, and all the heads of departments; from salon management to the media department. Every week the meeting has a different focus, but it’s the perfect opportunity for all of us to come together and discuss future plans, projects and launches – nothing is ever off the table. Then it’s on to checking social content, tweaking video edits, signing off press releases – you name it, it’s getting done on a Tuesday. Once the meetings are done, it’s back to the Academy for Art Team Training night, which is exclusive to TONI&GUY staff. We invite everyone from apprentices to partners for a night of inspiration, which usually ends at a Bloomsbury pub.
TEACHING
My passion is education, I love teaching and try to teach at least once a week, usually on a Wednesday. I start by talking to the Heads of Courses to see what their objectives are for the day. The Beginner’s Course and Hair Professionals (who are our apprentices) are my favourites to teach as it’s how I started my own training more than 30 years ago. I love being able to pass on the knowledge that was given to me. Then it’s home for family Netflix time.
INSPIRATION DAY
If we have exciting projects coming up, then it’s all about getting the team together to thrash out ideas, share our visions and discuss what needs to be done in order to bring everything to life – from conceptualising moodboards to finishing with model booking briefs and castings. We’re currently in shooting season with British Hairdressing Awards right around the corner.
STRATEGY DAYS
On Friday’s if I am not signing off VTs with our production team for upcoming overseas trips, I’ll be meeting with the media teams to discuss and review marketing initiatives, salon performance and any new product launches. After a long week, it’s straight back home for ‘Fun Family Friday’, where we will either watch a movie or head to bowling.
