According to trend forecasting company WGSN, tinted pastels, earthy neutrals, desert pigments, and nourishing greens are the colour schemes that are trending for SS24.

SPACED OUT

Making the most out of your space means money well spent. “Ask yourself, what do you need?” says Tracy Goldsworthy, Goldsworthy’s Hairdressing, Swindon. “In our case, our reception area was too large. So we used some of this space to create a whole new room for hair loss consultations which have become an important part of our business.” Francesca Corteen, Interior Designer for REM tells us: “Straightening off walls can really help maximise space as alcoves and nibs sometimes disrupt the styling mirror spacing. Choose multi-functional items such as the REM Glam Lux Salon Retail Unit; this has retail space for products and storage in one place. Island units are also a helpful way to make use of the centre of a room if you have a larger salon.”

REM

“OUR CLIENTS LOVE THAT OUR RETAIL AREA IS SMALL AND NOT OVERPOWERING – THEY LIKE MINI DISPLAYS THAT ARE AROUND THE SALON AS OPPOSED TO A LARGE AREA WITH TOO MUCH CHOICE.”

TAKARA BELMONT OFFER A 0%, ZERO DEPOSIT FINANCE SCHEME, WHICH MEANS YOU CAN UPGRADE YOUR SALON IN AN AFFORDABLE AND TAX EFFICIENT WAY.

STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD

Thinking outside the box and being creative is key to making your salon stand out from the crowd. At Brooks & Brooks, it’s all about a great window display. “We’re in a high traffic thoroughfare so we regularly change what’s in the window,” says Jamie Brooks, Brooks & Brooks, London, adding: “Sally has done a fabulous job of displaying plants in the window. A lot of people stop and take photographs which is great for us because they post them on their socials – the new version of word of mouth. Therefore, it’s really important that you have company branding in the window!” But it’s equally important to be unique and show your brand personality. Lacey Hunter-Felton of Hunter Collective tells us you need to really understand what it is you love about your space and what the USP is. “Don’t look at what other salons are doing, be true to your brand and understand what it is you love. What do you want your clients to experience?” Lacey believes coming back to that core value will always make your own space stand out.

“FOCAL POINTS SUCH AS CURVES PAIRED WITH A NEUTRAL COLOUR PALETTE CAN BRING ELEGANCE AND A MODERN VIBE TO A SPACE.”

TOP TIP

“CHOOSE AN INTERIOR STYLE THAT YOU THINK YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH FOR ANUMBER OF YEARS. CLASSIC COLOURS AND TIMELESS TOUCHES WILL SAVE YOU MONEY IN THE LONG RUN, RATHER THAN OPTING FOR ATREND THAT WILL LOOK TIRED OR OUTDATED IN ACOUPLE OF YEARS.”

DESIGN HACK

“Prioritise elements and areas that are going to make the biggest impact,” Harriet Schofield of Salon Supplies, tells us. “Incorporate clever storage solutions as part of your salon design such as shelving behind stations or built in cupboards.” Did you know Salon Supplies have a dedicated furniture team that tailor their offering to suit your requirements? They have three large furniture showrooms in the South of England where you can see their diverse range of products in person.

TOP TIP

“IF YOU’RE ON A BUDGET, THERE ARE SIMPLE WAYS TO BRING YOUR SALON UP TO DATE. SET YOUR BUDGET AND STICK TO IT! ONE WAY TO UPDATE YOUR SALON DÉCOR IS TO PAINT THE STYLING STATIONS. PLUS, CHANGE THE LIGHTING TO MAKE IT BRIGHTER; IT’S AMAZING WHAT A DIFFERENCE THINGS MAKE!”

Alan Howard

“Don’t be afraid to shop around for a price that suits you. When I was redesigning my salon, I was originally looking at one furniture supplier until I found similar designs at Alan Howard that better suited my budget.”

“I ALWAYS HEAR CUSTOMERS SAY THEY HAVE LIMITED BUDGET AS THEY HAVE SPENT THE MAJORITY ON AN INTERIOR DESIGNER. MOST FURNITURE MANUFACTURERS OFFER A DESIGN SERVICE FOR FREE WHEN YOU SPEND A CERTAIN AMOUNT WITH THEM.”
