The BAMBOO CUTTER’S Tale
Inspired by the 10th-century Japanese folktale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, this collection reimagines the ethereal story of Princess Kaguya through the lens of contemporary hair artistry
“Known as Japan’s oldest narrative, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter tells of a celestial being found within a glowing bamboo stalk. Raised by a humble cutter, and ultimately returning to the moon, the story speaks to themes of hidden beauty, impermanence, and quiet power. We’ve woven these themes into the collection by integrating visual motifs of bamboo textures, traditional Japanese woodblock prints, and silhouette concealment. Hair was sculpted to conceal and frame the models, creating silhouettes that suggest secrecy and protection, much like the princess herself.”
