THE WINNERS take it all
We grabbed the winners on the L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2025 shoot to quiz them about their experience and what it felt like to see their looks from behind the lens
L’ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY AWARD UK OVERALL WINNER ANGELA THOMSON, RUSSELL EATON, BARNSLEY
What have you learnt from the experience so far?
Try new things. I didn’t have a clue that I would win. I was in shock on the night, I’m still in shock!
Tell me about the inspiration for your look?
It was barcodes! I created slices of different pinks and left out some blonde to keep some softness. It was all about keeping the look co-ordinated and making the colours pop.
What would you say to someone looking to enter next year?
Go for it. Don’t even think about it, do it. You just never know!
L’ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY STAR AWARD UK WINNER KAYLEIGH BYRNE, TRIBE SALONS LONDON
What have you learnt from the experience so far?
Nerves are a good thing. They’re not always bad.
Tell me about the inspiration for your look?
I was inspired by a sculpture artist called Hannah Wilk, she uses pinks and layers colours in a unique way.
How did you find the shoot experience?
I was a bit nervous, but it’s been so lovely.
What would you say to someone looking to enter next year?
Trust yourself and don’t give up, especially when it’s something that you’re proud of.
L’ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY STAR AWARD IRELAND WINNER HOLLY COFFEY, STYLE CLUB PAVILIONS
What have you learnt from the experience so far?
I’ve learnt to trust my gut. I just stuck with my original vision and it worked.
Tell me about the inspiration for your look today?
I was inspired by how rust oxidises over time and starts out as a warm brown and then oxidises and turns into a vivid orange.
How did you find the shoot experience?
I was nervous as I’ve never done anything like this before, but after meeting everyone and getting more comfortable and seeing how everybody works, it’s been so exciting.
L’ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY AWARD IRELAND OVERALL WINNERS GRAHAM SANTELÍZ MOLLOY AND JAMES COLEMAN, BROWN SUGAR
What have you learnt from the experience so far?
Pay attention to detail and do your research.
Tell me about the inspiration for your look?
Lady Gaga! The cut was all about structure, clean lines and geometric shapes, then it was all about highlighting the cut with smart colour placement.
How did you find the shoot experience?
It’s amazing to see all of the winners work up close and personal. Working with photographer Jack Eames is a dream come true, his attention to detail is impeccable.
What would you say to someone looking to enter next year?
The years that I didn’t get placed are the years that I learnt the most. If it doesn’t go your way, try, try again.
L’ORÉAL COLOUR SPECIALIST AWARD WINNER HANNAH GRAY, MASSARELLA & JONES
What have you learnt from the experience so far?
In the Colour Specialist category you do a presentation, so that was a challenge. But I just trusted my expertise and my gut.
Tell me about the inspiration for your look?
I’m inspired by Mocha Mousse, Pantone’s Colour of the Year. I wanted to create a beautiful, multi-dimensional brunette.
How did you find the shoot experience?
Everyone was so lovely and relaxed.
What would you say to someone looking to enter next year?
Head into the competition doing what you love to do and most importantly, enjoy it!
L’ORÉAL COLOUR TROPHY AFRO AWARD WINNER DANIEL STANLEY, PEG HAIR, BRIGHTON
What have you learnt from the experience so far?
Trust your instincts. It wasn’t until I took my models gown off that I looked back and was like ‘maybe we could win this!’.
Tell me about the inspiration for your look?
Find the model and the inspiration will come. I met my model and together we’ve ended on this early 2000’s, disco girly, sparkly poolside disco vibe.
What would you say to someone looking to enter next year?
Find a model as committed to the journey as you are. And one that will keep you calm on the day!
