HAIR: MONIQUE MCMAHON FOR WELLA PROFESSIONALS

One of the things we care about most at HJ is your business. That’s why when we were inundated with comments and emails centring around the impact the 2024 Autumn budget will have on your business, we responded by launching the #SupportOurSalons campaign. We are committing to sharing your stories and reporting responsibly on the changes. You can find more details on page 8 and online, where we also have a letter template that you can use to write to your MP and share how much the increase in National Insurance contributions has affected your business. Why not invite them into your salon so they can see the positive impact the salons have on our communities?

I’ve loved looking through all the pictures from HJ's British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, take a look at our coverage from page 26. Outsiders to our industry might not know the creative geniuses that exist in our sector. Nowhere is this displayed more prominently than in the British nominee collections (from page 48), why not share with your clients and shout about yours and your peer’s successes.

Is there anything more pressing than the next generation of our industry? In our HJ Voicenotes this month we chatted to salon owner Lloyd Court about the impact the budget has had on his apprentices specifically and how he’s adapting. Elsewhere, the issue of charging for no-shows is addressed in our HJ Debate as three hairdressers weigh in – all with differing, but interesting, views.

Finally, we’ve rounded up the key dates to have on your radar for this year, from the awards to enter to the exhibitions to attend, as well as the leading events from key brands. Turn to page 20 and add them to your calendars now.

All that remains for me to say is Happy New Year and I hope 2025 brings you success and happiness, and hopefully some time to rest and recuperate.
