#SALON24 MASTERCLASSES
SOME OF THE INDUSTRY'S BIGGEST STARS INSPIRED AUDIENCES WITH A STUNNING ARRAY OF HAIR ARTISTRY AND CREATIVITY
The SACO International Art Team made a striking statement with their latest collection, EXCELLERATE, inspired by the American abstract painter Mark Rothko and the vibrant energy of the 1970s.
RICHARD ASHFORTH
Richard Ashforth referenced the mid-70s art movements in London and New York, including the Punk explosion, which influenced the collection's strong, spiky textures and understated shapes. The theme of boldness extended beyond colour into the cutting techniques as Luke Hawkins demonstrated a soft, natural-looking cut with subtle texture, while Charlie Kang from SACO Korea combined a strong structured base with disconnected length through the top.
LUKE HAWKINS
Richard infused his look with 70s influences while avoiding it becoming too much like a mullet, and for his second model, he created bold and graphic shapes that complemented the colour work.
CHARLIE KANG
Richard then invited Peter Gray, a friend and fellow artist, on stage for a captivating cutting segment featuring an exaggerated hairpiece pinned onto the model's hair. The models then returned to the stage for a stunning finale showing SACO's commitment to pushing boundaries and delivering cutting-edge hairdressing.
Mahogany unveiled its Spring/Summer collection, led by International Creative Director Colin Greaney, UK Creative Director Antony Licata, and Senior Creative Director Neil Atkinson. The team showcased their distinctive expertise in cutting and colouring, leaving attendees inspired and captivated.
MAHOGANY
Antony introduced the team’s latest collection "New Boho," inspired by the fashion house Chloé and its Creative Director, Chemena Kamali. Drawing inspiration from the sheer, fluid freedom of the 70s, the seminar commenced with a captivating presentation featuring three models showcasing looks from the new collection.
MAHOGANY
"Erratic" was the key word used by the team to describe the cutting techniques employed, as well as their diverse approaches.
NEIL ATKINSON
The seminars remained true to the Mahogany Hairdressing ethos, showcasing groundbreaking cutting and colouring techniques and inspiring the audience. As Colin stated: "My Creative Team has a clear understanding of the amalgamation of art, fashion, beauty and architecture, most importantly a visionary blend of groundbreaking techniques that can be adapted for commercial applications."
The RUSH Artistic Team electrified the stage with their latest collection, FREQUENCY. Led by International Creative Director Andy Heasman, the team explored the themes of energy, sound, nature and the balance of highs and lows through cutting and colouring techniques.
SEUNG KI BAEK
Seung Ki Baek and the colour team discussed the movement that colour placement can impart on hair, alongside high and low frequency cutting techniques. Kirsty Judge incorporated beautiful copper tones and Tina Memhi shared low-frequency colour, using high-definition tones.
RUSH
RUSH Editorial Director Tina Farey then created hair pieces constructed with wire and bias binding, resulting in powerful and colourful ponytails. International Artistic Team member, Sophie Chandler, worked with wigs and wefts to create a visual soundbar effect that perfectly complemented the overarching theme.
Andy Heasman returned for the cutting section using soundwaves as inspiration for his sectioning pattern. Michael Rackett, from the RUSH art team, worked with expansion and elongation, and Craig Mason added disconnections.
RUSH
The finale featured 11 models with looks ranging from commercial to avant garde, leaving the audience in awe of the team's creativity and technical expertise.
Celebrating 70 years of unparalleled excellence, The House of Sassoon showcased its innovative techniques, cutting-edge looks, and commitment to development.
SASSOON
Models arrived on stage wearing Henry Holland-inspired t-shirts emblazoned with "Vidal says technique not gender" to mark the launch of the new ABC gender-neutral education courses, with International Creative Director Mark Hayes emphasising their gender-neutral approach and modern take on classic techniques.
SASSOON
Silvia Salerno then discussed her model's pure and simple cut, featuring triangular shapes for added texture, and Lee Nunn deconstructed the internal core of his haircut, exposing some of the layers.
The team then presented the BLANC collection, discussing the diagrams of all the cuts and colours. Mark worked on layering and overdirecting to create a soft, loose edge that frames the face. Danielle Harvey was inspired by 70s Paris, with an overall feeling of modern minimalism, and Daniel McCourt was inspired by Japanese youth culture for his cut, featuring a bold fringe and V-shaped graduated sections.
SASSOON
With classic silhouettes and techniques expertly blended with a contemporary, hyper-individualised approach, this show exemplified what has made Sassoon truly special for 70 years.
TONI&GUY delivered an electrifying masterclass led by HJ's British Hairdresser of the Year, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, Cos Sakkas and the award-winning International Artistic Team, immersing attendees in creative ideas and the latest trends in hair fashion.
