It seems like summer has gone by in the blink of an eye and we’re swiftly into Autumn which means one thing for us here at Team HJ… Salon International. Ever ything you need to know about this year’s exhibition is listed from pages 79. We’ve got a new stage, lots of new brands and hundreds of exclusive offers and launches dropping from Saturday 12Monday 14 October. Not got your tickets? Don’t wait around…
But back to the issue in hand. In our Colour Special this month we looked at the two sides of the blonde colour spectrum – warm and cool. You can’t move for ‘new’ warm blonde trends on social media, (Sunflower Blonde anyone?) but there’s still a case to be made for cooler tones too. Increasingly clients want to flit between the two with ease, even in one appointment! We all know that blondes have more fun, and, crucially, the colour is super profitable for stylists and salons. Check out our blonde guide from page 35.
Elsewhere, we spoke to salon owner Stephen Morley on the secrets to team longevity. Having been in the industr y for over 50 years I loved what he had to say about nurturing and keeping a team. He writes about what he tells his team, “If you’ve got a problem, come to us first. When it’s a small problem, don’t let it snowball. Unless you’re open and honest with one another it’s never going to work.”
In this month’s HJ Debate (page 17) we asked three salon managers how they deal with no-shows – and their answers might surprise you. We also chatted to a host of curly-hair specialists to find out about their career journeys. Whether they were inspired by the communities around them or were being refreshingly honest about it being a skills gap that prompted their journey to specialising in curly hair, it makes for a fascinating read on page 70.
And all that remains to be said is… See you at #Salon24!
