LIFE THROUGH A LENS

The British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, current Midlands a decade of collections

1 Candy Pop

My Candy Pop collection won numerous awards and came right at the start of the vivids revolution. The glasses were a last-minute addition, but they made the shot even more iconic.

2 Something Different

This was part of my winning collection from my 2012 Men’s Hairdresser of the Year entry. I feel this collection was instrumental in changing the way we think about shooting men’s hair.

3 Simple Plan

My favourite shot from my Midlands Hairdresser of the Year 2023 collection. I love how simple it is, but you can still see the technique in the styling.

4 Chasing Waterfalls

I shot this whilst living In Madrid -I call it ‘Waterfall’. I love the structure, which took some building on the day, starting with an inner cage with hair bound through to achieve the height.

5 Movin’ On Up

I’m thrilled with the colour placement in this shot. I had a low budget but received so much recognition in the press. I love the fact you are drawn to the hair instantly and the way it moves.

6 Disco Pink

This hair is pure disco, filling the shot with cascading curls. It took some time to align the hair across the face to create the right shadows. Lighting was key to getting the shot.

7 Zig-Ah-Zig-Ah

This was part of a trends collection for ASP, using foil to create the zigzag effect. We had to make sure the model created the right shape with her body to complement the hair.
