Industry Unites to Cut VAT
At the time of press, salon owners are uniting in a campaign that calls on the Government for an immediate cut in VAT to 10% in the Spring Budget. A recent survey by the Salon Employers Association recently found that nearly 1 in 5 salon owners have admitted being close to a mental and emotional breakdown; co-founder and owner of The Chapel Salon in Tunbridge Wells, Toby Dicker commented: "Of all of the personal bankruptcies in the UK, 24% are attributed to our sector - this is the pressure we're under." Caroline Larissey, Chief Executive of the NHBF also shared: “The presence of the cliff edge within the current VAT regime incentivises businesses to remain below the threshold, forgo much needed growth and produce a lower tax yield for HM Treasury.”

Avlon Launches 2024 Education Programme
To celebrate 40 years in business Avlon is expanding its education offering in 2024 by opening its textured hair courses and colour workshops to all hair professionals, not just Avlon associated salons. The new, dynamic education programme is crafted to elevate a stylist’s skill set and enhance salon businesses through diverse formats including, in-person workshops, inspirational events, creative networking, and online learning platforms to ensure flexibility and convenience. RUSSELL EATON ANNOUNCE NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Russell Eaton’s Daniel Couch has been promoted from Head of Colour to Artistic Director. Director, Robert Eaton commented: “Daniel will work closely with myself and my dad Russell to further strengthen our brand and its relationships whilst working in the salon to promote creativity and education among our team.” Daniel’s new role as Artistic Director of Russell Eaton will see him working on the creative direction of the brand, working with its stylists to ensure consistency and develop their skill sets, ensuring the team are fully trained in the latest techniques and equipped to tackle trends.

Latest Research Reveals £5.5 million Boost for Salons
Salons using Vish Colour Management Software banked an extra £5.5 million globally in 2023, according to data published recently by Vish. Those benefitting include Nottingham-based Tuckwell & Co with a £22,300 hike in revenue from additional colour charges, The Bank Hairdressing in Brigg, Lincs, where the average colour use has dropped by 16% and SJ Forbes in Egham, Surrey, where the average cost per colour application is down by 22%.
