Blonde Buzzwords
Blonde is always big business, and with new trends constantly emerging we asked the experts to share their colour knowledge to help you boost your blonde services
SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL
For a long time the blonde buzzword has been balayage, and although this has become the mainstay for many salons, hairdressers are always overjoyed to welcome a client that’s ready to Blonde try something new. “Colour blocking will be the real trend for the coming months, using shapes as templates to create a strong dimension between two colours. This gives enough ‘pop’ from light hues that range from vibrant to soft, and creates an impact without having to spend hours behind the chair,” says.

1 Mink and Honey
SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL
“I am using a lot of warmer toners, creating soft honey, beige and butter tones using Tonalights Demi,” Sarah Bates, UK Lead Educator for Elgon tells us adding that the effect makes the hair luminous and complements all skin tones. “For 2023, warmth in blondes is very much here to stay, and I believe we’ll see some mink tones being introduced, creating an interesting, expensive looking blonde,” adds.

2 Going for Gold
FFØR
Have you heard of the ‘uptown blonde’? According to Shu-Lan Cheung, Technical Educator at FFØR this high commitment blonde is bright and glamourous, with golden tones. “Weave these into your highlights or add a gloss to inject that tone and beautiful shine,” she recommends. Tom Connell, Davines Hair Art Director, adds: “A graduated honey blonde gives a refined look that blends seamlessly through the hair. Placement can be bright and bold or subtle and discrete, reflecting your client's mood and their hair’s natural tendencies."
3 Livin’ It Up
PULP RIOT
According to Dan Spiller, JOICO Colour Ambassador for Europe, the UK and Ireland, blondes are diversifying. “Heavily influenced by the growing popular ‘lived-in’ colour, clients are no longer simply requesting a full head of blonde highlights,” he says. “It's more popular with Gen Z clients to have DIY/raw blondes rather than the salon ‘per fect’ blonde, which allows stylists to have more creative freedom,” explains.

4 Au Naturel
PULP RIOT
Similar to the raw blondes that are trending, natural looking hair is proving popular with clients too. “Techniques such as back-to-back babylights through the Mohawk section (down the centre) will give high coverage without looking stripy, and slices through the front section will create a subtle face frame,” explains Hannah Button, Pulp Riot Artist. Adele Clarke, Osmo Ambassador tells us that budget-busting-blondes are going to be popular this year. “The days of back-to-back intense foiling are fading away. Low maintenance is such a big request from customers – they’re wanting a softer effect that grows out more subtly.”
5 Scandi-lous
GOLDWELL
“We are seeing more Platinum Blonde requests, not so much a full head, but stand out platinum that frames the face,” says Laura Van Flute, UK Paul Mitchell Artistic Team. Jamie Mazzei, for Celeb Luxury, tells us clients are specifically requesting Scandi blonde locks: “The tones can range from platinum to slightly warm blonde.” Mark Leeson, Revlon Professional Global Ambassador comments: "These blondes require creativity and knowledge, and we are always impressed by the stunning per formance of Magnet, Magnet Blondes and Intense Hi-Lift Blondes that are at our fingertips," adding that he can achieve maximum per formance whilst respecting the hair 's integrity.
6 The Highlight
REVLON PROFESSIONAL
“We are finding more clients reverting to highlights, slices and panels for a more impactful look,” says Tim Scott-Wright, Schwarzkopf Professional Brand Ambassador. D’Arcy Liddle is celebrating a return to the 90s and loving client’s requests for chunky highlights and warmer tones. “They're easier to maintain, personalised, and they can make the whole look more fun!” she adds.

Most clients fear damage and breakage when it comes to going blonde or lighter. We have to show them that colour has come a long way in preventing damage. We have to showcase shiny and healthy blondes in our marketing. The days of hair damage is long gone!

Introduce blonde services as a journey to your new colour clients and show them the steps and services for each part of the journey which will take them through all the seasons. Some salons have started selling this as a package or even a subscription where clients pay monthly.
