What do you love most about being a colourist?
I love all things hair! Being a colourist is a lifestyle for me – I’m always thinking about hair and different shades. I love how the right colour can instantly transform the way a client feels. When someone feels good about themselves, it changes everything. From there, you can build trust and relationships.
What’s your favourite colour technique?
Scandi blonde. I love everything about that technique – it’s a part of my DNA!
What are your colour predictions for the rest of the year?
At the moment we’re seeing a huge focus on different brunette hues and warmer blondes, but marmalade shades are definitely on the rise for autumn/winter this year.
What’s one thing you wish every client knew about colour?
Every client should know that great colour should work in harmony with your complexion.
What’s one colour trend you’re glad to see the back of?
I’m so happy we are moving away from balayage and taking on more traditional techniques such as foiling.
What’s your favourite colour creation you’ve done recently?
I did a big colour change on a model travelling to Paris for work. We took her from her natural colour to a Scandinavian white blonde at the request of both her agent and the fashion label she was working with. She looked amazing.
What’s your biggest colour ‘no-no’?
Over processing the hair, or pushing it too far.
What’s the one colour/ product you’d save in an emergency?
Wella Color Fresh 0/6 – I just can’t live without it!
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt from being a colourist?
Over the years, I’ve learnt so much, but the most important lesson is that it’s always about the person in the chair – how they feel and how they want to see themselves. You need to truly understand their vision to deliver a result that feels right for them.
What is your favourite ‘high-impact’ colour service that takes less than an hour?
Any toning service can be so impactful as you can create bright copper, reds or pastels really quickly.

1 COLOUR CRUSH
This was a colour look created for the Wella Professionals TrendVision Awards a couple of years ago. I love mixing brunette with soft pinks.
2 SHOOT PREP
This was a pink wig prepped for a shoot we did in China last year. The inspiration came from Chinese street fashion and their love for comic magazines and fiction characters.
3 90S REVIVAL
This image was captured during prep for an awards show in China last year. The inspiration was all about 90s block colouring.
