When I asked Efi Davies to join Team HJ as Guest Editor
for our March issue, she approached the role with the
enthusiasm and passion I could only have dreamt of.
Since winning British Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards 2025, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, Efi has remained dedicated to educating the next generation, telling me: “There really is no better feeling than seeing a student become better than you.” It’s only right then that her guest issue includes our Apprentice special (sponsored by Denman), where we find out what a group of young apprentices are loving learning, as well as the skills they find most challenging. For now, however, a note from our Guest Editor, Efi Davies:
“Hairdressing is one of the most creative, generous industries I’ve ever known. Every day I’m reminded how lucky I am to do this for a living; to create, collaborate, and to be surrounded by people who care so much about our craft.
What excites me most about our industry is its future. We have a responsibility to nurture young talent, to share knowledge openly, and to create spaces where curiosity is encouraged rather than controlled. Creativity doesn’t grow behind closed doors, there is room for everyone here – for different voices, backgrounds, ideas, and ambition. We are stronger when we lift each other up.
I truly believe hairdressing has the power to inspire, to change confidence, and to shape culture. Being part of that journey, and contributing to it is something I never take for granted. I hope you enjoy my Guest Editor issue.”
