Dreamt up by Marcos Verissimo, The Six (aptly named) is housed within an impressive six-storey Georgian townhouse – a Grade II-listed property dating back to the 1770s. From conception to opening, it took nearly five years to complete – convincing landlords of the need for such a substantial space took nearly three years alone. The building was originally converted from a residential property to an office space, however Marcos shares that it was always his vision to restore its original sense of ‘home’, while ensuring its functionality as a modern salon.
“Having observed other industries, the key takeaway was that the focus has shifted towards creating memorable moments,” Marco tells us. “Clients today are seeking escapism and an experience that leaves a lasting impression.” To bring this vision to life, Marcos worked with Argent Design to create what he describes as a sanctuary for exceptional grooming, hair and beauty treatments, driven by a multicultural team.
The Six utilises soft, earthy tones alongside a rich forest green in both its branding and salon design, to create a cohesive visual identity that oozes warmth and sophistication. Carefully engineered lighting ensures no shadows are visible in photography, while a colour temperature of 3,000 Kelvin (a warm white) ensures the interior remains bright, regardless of the weather.
Timeless styles that endure are a key focus within The Six; the walls are covered in claylime, which is similar to polished plaster, but offers more durability as it’s less susceptible to damage from moisture. Meanwhile, the flooring is a parquet wood, but has been covered with vinyl in some areas to protect from staining.
The salon boasts an impressive 28 chairs, divided into three distinct functions: styling chairs, barber chairs and specialised lash and brow chairs. It also features 11 backwash stations, with the main backwash area connected to the colour bar. This open design allows clients to observe the skill of the colourists, inspired by the concept of open kitchens in restaurants. When selecting the backwashes, the primary consideration was size, with Marcos explaining: “Today, many treatments are performed in this area, so it was essential to have ample space to work comfortably.”
Meanwhile, with clients spending a significant amount of time at the styling stations, rounded corners were selected to create a softer, more welcoming feel. Every station also features a retractable table, allowing clients to either work on laptops or enjoy food prepared in the salon’s kitchen. Plus, while surfaces in salons are typically made from glass, veneer, or marble, The Six features custom resin counters blended with marble and pigments to reflect the branding, while also adding to the sophisticated aesthetic of the space.
“Every decision in The Six was made with the intention of creating a balanced, thoughtful environment,” reflects Marcos. “This space is for individuals who want to be part of a community built on strong values and mutual respect, whether they’re seeking the latest hair trends or simply want to bethe best version of themselves.”
