Tim Scott-Wright shares the story behind his and Teri Lowe’s award-winning 2024 collection, Shogun

What do you love about this collection?

What I love most about this collection is how each image tells its own story while still feeling part of a cohesive concept. There’s a strong sense of individuality across the looks – from bold shapes and precision cuts to striking colour contrasts – but they’re all connected by a shared aesthetic. It’s a powerful mix of tradition and modernity, softness and strength, and really reflects our creative approach in the salon: expressive, high-fashion, and rooted in storytelling.

What was the inspiration for the hair?

This collection takes inspiration from traditional Japanese fashion and cultural style. Through powerful, bold shapes the images portray strong, warrior-like women. The styling is high-end couture, using a muted palette with accent colours, such as red, orange and yellow.

How did you go about setting up the shoot?

We shot everything at White Rabbit Studios, which gave us complete control over lighting and space - perfect for creating those sculptural shapes and bold silhouettes we were aiming for. For casting we wanted to find people who could carry the strength and elegance of the concept. We reached out to a number of agencies looking for presence, personality and that bit of edge.

Did anything go wrong or surprise you on the day?

No and that was absolutely wonderful. I think because I work so closely with Michael, our photographer, we had been back and forth about every detail, sharing references and inspiration pics so we were all on the same page before the shoot even began. Teri and I had both been focusing on all the details we wanted to create with every look so we were prepped and ready to go with every model. It was one of those fantastic shoots when everything just came together beautifully. We had done so much preparation beforehand, we were all ready to go from the off.

Do you have a significant memory from the day?

My overwhelming memory of the shoot day was loving it, there’s absolutely nothing better than having our vision come to life! All the models brought a brilliant vibe to set and the magic happened. We both love the drama and colour of this shoot, the fierce energy with beautiful hair – it’s just everything we hoped it would be!
