Showing you care should be your number one priority as a hairdresser, but sometimes it’s easy to lose that simple act in the noise of profit margins, budgets and client retention. But speaking to this month’s Voicenotes columnist Patrick Gildea certainly made me sit up and rethink. Finding himself up against the prevailing notion that hairdressers find it hard to retail, he did something quietly revolutionary. “You’re not ‘selling’, you’re ‘caring’.” The team recommends products because they care, he shares on page 24. For the cynical amongst you, this flip in thinking has resulted in an increase in sales and a 78% re-booking rate. So even if you only think about it from a business perspective, showing you care will always work in your favour… It’s even in the name haircare!
