LIFE THROUGH A LENS
Antoinette Beenders, joint winner of International Collection of the Year at #BHA23, works with top creative talent to combine high-fashion and environmental consciousness
1 Life Changing Photography
This is from my winning British Hairdressing Awards 2004 collection. It was shot on 10x8 polaroid, which was unheard of at the time as we were entering the digital era of photography.
2 Blade Runner
Shot on a windfarm, this Aveda campaign showcased that we were the first beauty company to be manufacturing with 100% wind energy. I love how the hair mimics the turbine blades.
3 Punk Couture
This image was shot in New York for a collection in 2009 called ‘Punk Couture’.The theme was all about backlit hair, which normally I am not a great fan of, but I think it worked well here.
4 Send In The Clowns
Shot with Jenny Hands, who is always fun to work with, this was our take on clowns. I wanted to create hair with different materials – I created this style with tiny bits of painter's tape put together like a puzzle.
5 Recycling Revolution
We took repurposed market finds, blending them with pieces from the new catwalk shows. I see hair as the fabric of the body and hair imagery as editorial, hence this full length shot.
6 Bloem
Colour was my guiding star for this collection. Despite being primarily a cutter / stylist, I came up with the concept of cutting with colour, placing colour from a cutter’s point of view.
7 A Piece of Hair
A.P.O.H. by myself and X-presion was inspired by a Japanese fashion designer known as a pioneer of fabric technology. It explores the using ‘A Piece Of Hair’ as a fabric or medium.
