WELCOME
As we move into the final stretch of the year, November feels like the calm after the storm of Salon International. A (brief!) moment to take stock and celebrate creativity before the busiest time of the hairdressing year kicks off – the pre-Christmas rush.
In this issue, we revisit the highlights from #Salon25, capturing the energy, talent and innovation that make it such a standout event. From the HJ and Colour Stages to the showcases on the Modern Barber and Textured Hair Stage, sponsored by Avlon Professional, stages it was a true reminder of the breadth of talent and skill in our industry. This month our HJ Reports section takes you on a whistle-stop tour of Europe’s biggest events, including the Wella TrendVision Awards, Goldwell’s ColorSphere in Milan and the BaBylissPRO Community Show in Paris, proof that artistry in hairdressing truly has no borders.
On the business side of things, HJ Debate explores whether you should charge for consultations, a topic that always sparks conversation. And in HJ Voicenotes, two college lecturers share their inspiring experiences teaching the next generation of hair professionals. It was a joy to speak to two passionate and dedicated individuals, and spotlight lecturer’s voices.
As party season approaches, our All About the Updo feature (on page 28) explores the perfect updos for every face shape to the products that keep looks lasting all night. You can also peek inside the kitbags of top stylists to see which tools they can’t live without (page 30).
Elsewhere, colourist Lloyd Court brings his expertise to Colour Notes, while our Interiors page spotlights Charlotte Paints Hair in Solihull, a salon that blends creativity with comfort. And in Careers, Tim Scott Wright reflects on three decades in hairdressing, sharing lessons from a career filled with passion. Finally, Behind the Lens sees Darren Ambrose open up about his collection, Rereligion, offering insight into the story behind the imagery.
Whether your eye is firmly on business or you’re exploring your next creative move, this issue is designed to fuel your imagination. And if you’ve not bought them yet, this is your PSA to get tickets to HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, on Monday 24 November. See you there!
