PARTY HAIR: All About The Updo!

Get your clients party ready with the perfect updo tailored to suit every style and occasion

ZOË REES

TOP PRODUCTS FOR ANY UPDO

When it comes to preparing the hair for an updo, the products you choose can make all the difference in achieving long-lasting hold and the perfect finish. Denman Creative, Zoë Rees highlights the importance of prepping the hair, recommending Organic Colour Systems Control Volume Foam and Root Lift Spray to create the ideal texture and lift before styling. To complete the look, she suggests adding definition and hold with Eleven Australia’s Dry Finish Wax Spray. Similarly, ASP UK Ambassador Sheree Ann Gough also emphasises the power of prep, recommending the ASP Volume Mousse to add body and structure, paired with the ASP Miracle Mist for a healthy, polished finish.

THE PERFECT UPDO FOR EACH FACESHAPE

Ensure your updo looks enhance the client's natural features. For example, “Rounder faces benefit from styles that elongate and add height. High top knots or ballet buns draw the eye upward," explains Group Education Manager, Marie Nieuwoudt for Cloud Nine.

RECREATE THE LOOK

Laura Chadwick, working with Remi Cachet, began her prep by applying Hierarchy Blow-Dry Spray, a product specifically chosen to smooth the hair cuticle, enhance natural shine, and create that clean, glass-like finish. This lightweight formula delivered just the right amount of slip and control, ensuring the hair remained manageable without becoming heavy, an ideal balance when precision and detailed styling are required.

To establish the foundation of the look and build both structure and volume, a Remi Cachet weft was incorporated to provide the extra density needed to sculpt the twisted sections with ease, while also creating symmetry and balance through the crown.

HOW TO HELP CLIENTS CHOOSE THE PARTY LOOK FOR THEM

HARRIS REED

“To find the perfect party look, stylists need to know the mood of the event, the outfit and the client’s personality. These three things can help to guide stylists and their clients in the right direction.”

Demetri Deacon-Jones, Global Beauty Experience Education Manager at Dyson

“UP-DOS CAN SUIT ALL FACE SHAPES, YOU JUST NEED TO ADAPT THE PARTING AND VOLUME PLACEMENT TO GIVE THE MOST FLATTERING EFFECT. FOR HEART-SHAPED FACES I LIKE TO WORK WITH A MIDDLE PARTING AND GO FOR MORE 70’S VOLUME THAT STARTS FROM THE EARS AND GETS WIDER DOWN THE HAIR. FOR A SQUARE SHAPE, A SIDE PARTING WITH VOLUME FROM THE ROOT ALL THE WAY AROUND THE HEAD IS THE MOST FLATTERING.”

Aaron Firmstone, Bumble and bumble National Lead Trainer
