Detials of New Energy Bills Discount Scheme
The government has announced the introduction of an Energy Bills Discount Scheme from 31 March 2023 to March 2024. This will replace the current support which provides a discount on gas and electricity unit prices.
This new support will give businesses with an energy contract discounts on wholesale prices of up to £6.97 per megawatt an hour for electricity and £19.61 per megawatt an hour for gas. This is much less than the current discount because wholesale energy costs have fallen back to where they were just before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and almost halved since the current scheme was announced. Businesses will receive the discount automatically. The Government estimates that a small retailer will save around £400. Responding to the announcement, Richard Lambert, NHBF Chief Executive said: “We are relieved that the Government has answered our call and that the hair and beauty sector will at least receive some support via the Energy Bills Discount Scheme. However, many will see the discount swallowed up in the first month or two of the energy price increases they are already facing.”

Lost Services Costing Industry Millions
Salon businesses are losing out on millions in potential revenue because of missed services and wasteful colour habits. Never before seen statistics detailing colour spend, just published by Vish, reveal those salons using its technology together captured an additional £2 million in product charges last year. Owners have labelled the Vish technology a game-changer.
“Stylists need to be empowered to deliver their best without worry of forgetting to add any additional product used to the bill, but that can seriously damage profitability,” says Joshua Howard, CEO of Vish. “We know from our salons that the stylist is delivering an average of 1.48 bowls of product per service. It could be additional bowls of colour or a toner, but only Vish salons are capturing those extras every time.”
The Vish 2022 data promises to provide a level of detail across the industry previously unavailable, shining a spotlight on a department notoriously difficult to monitor.
